The HSE didn’t have far to go when investigating inadequate scaffolding that was erected next door to one of their local offices. The scaffolding erected by Castle Scaffolding (Wales) Ltd exposed workers to serious risk of injury from falling by having no edge protection and being only 2 boards wide.
Having previously being warned in 2012 and 2013 the company was fined a total of £10,600 and had to pay £2,500 in costs after pleading guilty to breaching the Working at Height Regulations 2005 and the Management of Health and Safety at Work Regulations 1999.
HSE inspector Hayley Healey said:
“Death and serious injury following falls from height are all too common, and proper planning is vital to ensure the work is carried out safely and that the correct precautions are identified and used at all times.”
