Constructionline and Acclaim

Acclaim is the constructionline version of a Health & Safety Assessment.  Gaining your Acclaim Accreditation would enable you to become a member of ‘Safety Schemes In Procurement’ (SSIP), which is an umbrella organisation for health and safety assessment schemes.

Unsure how this works please click here to see the the flow of the process.

SSIP is known in the industry as one of the largest growing schemes with more buyers recognising it within the construction industry. This gives suppliers the opportunity to become a member of the scheme that suits them. This helps companies to eliminate the need to apply for multiple accreditation’s to appease different buyers.
Benefits of the Acclaim scheme

  • The simple questionnaire contains twelve questions and wont require you to resubmit any information you have already provided as part of your Constructionline membership.
  • The Acclaim Accreditation assessment is undertaken by the experts at Capita Property and Infrastructure. You will be provided with full details of the assessment and the assessor comments.
  • Acclaim Accreditation fees are based on your annual turnover, ensuring that the payment is affordable to all companies who require it.

If you would like some more information on the accreditation and think you may need help in completing the process please get in touch.

What is the common assessment standard

For pre-qualification in public sector projects exceeding £5,337,000,000, the Common Assessment Standard CAS is now the preferred method.

The Common Assessment Standard has been introduced to reduce even further the need to complete numerous Pre-Qualification questionnaires. The CAS is an approved standard recognised by any member of Build UK.

During October the new questions relating to the Standard will be available for completion on the Constructionline Portal.

Already have Gold or Platinum

The new questions for completion on the Common Assessment Standard will be added you your account at no extra cost.

Once the additional sections are available all you need to do is complete them and you then qualify. The sections will automatically appear once any change is made to your account.

Are you an existing Associate, Bronze or Silver member

If you currently have one of these levels in order to get access to the new questions you would need to upgrade to a Gold account and they will be included for you.

Get SSIP Accredited to access the work

If you are looking to access public sector projects you will need to have a SSIP accreditation for example CHAS, Construction line or PQS. There are over thirty SSIP accreditation bodies and it can be tricky to select the right one for your business.

We can help you select the right provider for your sector and budget.

Complete the form on this link or call 0800 031 5404 during office hours.

PQS Accreditation

The most economical SSIP accreditation is PQS. Obtaining a PQS accreditation also gives you access to CHAS and Construction Line through deem to satisfy. We can tell you more about this when we speak.

Completing PQS application takes time and resources, as well as completing lots of forms and health and safety documentation.

We can make it easy for you by doing all the leg work for you. We carry out over 500 applications a year with 100% success.

For a small fee, we can take the pain away for you.

Complete the form, and we will tell you how it works and how much the whole process costs, including the SSIP fee for your circumstances.

Being Members of SafeContractor and Constructionline: What It Means for Clients and Contractors

Being members of SafeContractor and Constructionline means a business has been independently assessed against recognised UK standards for health and safety, compliance, and organisational competence.

Both schemes are widely used across the construction and built-environment sector to help clients verify that contractors meet expected safety and procurement requirements.

    Why SafeContractor and Constructionline Matter

Many organisations now require contractors to hold both SafeContractor and Constructionline membership as part of their supplier approval process.

    Together, they provide:

    • Independent verification of health and safety systems
    • Confidence for clients and procurement teams
    • Reduced risk when appointing contractors
    • Streamlined tender and onboarding processes

Being members of both schemes demonstrates a proactive and professional approach to compliance.

    What SafeContractor Membership Demonstrates

SafeContractor focuses on health and safety competence and is SSIP-recognised.

Membership confirms that a contractor has:

    • A suitable health and safety policy
    • Effective risk assessments and method statements (RAMS)
    • Training and competence management in place
    • Accident reporting and monitoring procedures
    • Valid insurance cover

SafeContractor is often required for site access, frameworks, and ongoing contract work.

    What Constructionline Membership Demonstrates

Constructionline is a pre-qualification and verification platform used extensively in public and private sector procurement.

Membership demonstrates that a business has been checked for:

    • Company and director verification
    • Financial standing
    • Health and safety competence (SSIP at Silver and Gold levels)
    • Insurance and compliance documentation
    • Environmental and quality management (Gold level)

Constructionline is commonly required by local authorities, housing associations, and Tier 1 contractors.

Why Clients Look for Both Accreditations

Being members of SafeContractor and Constructionline provides broader assurance than holding either scheme alone.

    Together they:

    • Reduce duplication of PQQs
    • Provide confidence at both site and organisational level
    • Support public sector procurement requirements
    • Demonstrate consistency in safety management

For clients, this means lower risk and greater transparency.

    Benefits for Contractors

For contractors, being members of SafeContractor and Constructionline helps to:

    • Win more work
    • Meet tender and framework requirements
    • Reduce repetitive assessments
    • Improve credibility with clients
    • Demonstrate ongoing compliance, not just one-off approval

Many contractors find both memberships essential for remaining competitive.

    Maintaining Membership and Compliance

Membership of both schemes is not a one-time exercise.

    Contractors must:

    • Renew annually
    • Keep policies and RAMS up to date
    • Maintain valid insurance
    • Update company details promptly

Failure to do so can result in suspension or loss of approval.

    Summary

Being members of SafeContractor and Constructionline demonstrates that a contractor meets recognised UK health and safety, compliance, and procurement-readiness standards. Together, these accreditations provide clients with confidence and help contractors maintain eligibility for a wide range of work opportunities.

    New levels of Construction line

Construction line have recently announced they are going to introduce two new levels to their assessment process. The reason for the new introduction is to ensure that the “one stop shop” they currently operate evolves and continues to cover all the needs of suppliers and buyers.   The new changes are coming into place in summer 2017.

The Level of Construction line already in place will be classed as Silver membership.

The new levels of construction line will be:

Gold Membership – this will feature a much more in depth PQQ covering latest legislation changes including Modern Slavery. This is where you will include a Health & Safety accreditation such as a valid SSIP (Acclaim and CHAS) certificate to the supplier profile.

Platinum membership – this will be introduced to cover high-value contracts or contracts that involve substantial risk,. This will be applicable to contracts that will require an on-premise audit.

Why apply for your Constructionline accreditation?

When you undertake your Constructionline registration, you will be demonstrating that you meet the recognised standards required by any organisation looking to employ you as a contractor. Having your Constructionline accreditation is almost certain to open more doors and lead to more opportunities – in turn generating more business and profit for you, ensuring your own workforce is protected by robust health and safety practices.

We will keep you up to date with the latest information and when these new levels are available. If you have any questions about a current Constructionline application please get in touch.
