The new “Common Assessment Standard” is being introduced as a new way to reduce the number of accreditation’s SME suppliers in the construction industry need to gain in order to comply with Health & Safety in the industry.

The Common Assessment Standard (CAS) will initially be available through CHAS, ConstructionLine and Achilles. The idea is that the other major providers will then join in the scheme.

The assessment process for (CAS) is likely to require additional and more robust information than the current health and safety requirements already in place for the three providers. There will also be a price increase for assessment fees but will work out more cost effective if you are in the position where you need more than one accreditation to work with your clients.

The new Common Assessment Standard (CAS) will contain 248 questions, covering your companies’ health and safety, financial health, environmental performance and corporate and social responsibility.

This is in comparison to the 190 questions already being asked at the moment.

We will keep you updated with the latest information on release dates and how we can help you, in the meantime if we can help you with anything please get in touch.

CHAS

CHAS recently introduced two new levels within the CHAS portal these are:

  • CHAS premium
  • CHAS premium plus

They both come with an additional assessment Fee as well as the preparation of more information. We have had a number of people asking us to help them with these levels although they were not required.

The additional levels are generally a requirement from a client that you are currently working with or are looking to work for. The original CHAS level is more than enough unless you have been asked for the increase.

Both levels can easily be added on to your account so there is no worry about being able to upgrade at a later point.

If your unsure which level you need please get in touch and we will be able to advise you.

FORS Bronze and Silver Compliance

At Seguro we are here to assist you gaining and maintaining you FORS accreditation (Fleet Operator Recognition Scheme)

To pass FORS Bronze you need to submit evidence of the below:

  • Policies and procedures
  • Risk assessments
  • Checklists
  • Supporting tool box talks
  • Walk round training
  • Spot checks

Seguro can assist with compliant documentation and advice on how to implement these items.

This will then be audited by an independent assessor who will visit your premises and audit the completed paperwork.

If you require FORS Silver you will need to gain FORS Bronze first and hold this for at least 3 months before progressing to Silver. Moving to FORS Silver isn’t quite as challenging as gaining your initial Bronze accreditation, but you will need to demonstrate that you’ve consistently maintained your standards and are ready to step up to the next level.

Examples of the areas that come under the spotlight include:

A targeted training programme:

  • Better working practices
  • More efficient vehicles
  • If any of your vehicles is more than 3.5 tonnes, you’ll also need to equip them with audible warning systems covering left turns, reversing and blind spots. You’ll be asked to produce evidence such as invoices, receipts, and photos.

You will of course also have to pass your Bronze FORS audit every year to maintain Silver status.

There is currently no fast track to FORS Silver–there is a scheme called CLOCS which you automatically attain under FORS Silver–however entry of CLOCS does not grant you FORS Silver.

Get in touch if you would like to speak to us about assisting you.
